About him
In the 1960s, Dermato-Venereology was a neglected branch of medicine in Madhya Pradesh. Six medical colleges in the state had no separate department, no specialists and no postgraduate training. Prof. Dr. D. K. Gupta changed that.
He opened the clinic in Napier Town in 1960 that is this Institute today. In 1971 he started the Department of Dermatology at NSCB Medical College, Jabalpur. In 1986 the Indian Association of Leprologists honoured him for dedicated service in leprosy eradication in Madhya Pradesh. In 1987 he served as President of IADVL. In its lifetime the Institute has cared for more than 2.5 lakh patients.
His students serve today from AIIMS New Delhi to the United Kingdom, and in parts of Khandwa where no dermatological care existed before. After his passing in 2020 the clinic was institutionalised in his name.
